OS install notes:
There's an updated storage driver (IRST F6) to include PCIE support. ( The one you have to install for Windows to see the drive during installation ) :

Obtaining an ISO image:
For some systems you can obtain Dell operating system images through Dell Hosted image
Note: not all systems and service tags will have an image available for download.
Note: Even though Dell Hosted Images have USB3 drivers slip streamed in, they may not include the IRST driver at this time. ( some may know this at the F6 driver ). As a result you may need to install the IRST driver manually during the Windows install process.
Dell is currently working to add the IRST driver to the Dell Hosted Images. No ETA on when this will happen at this time.

Here's some info for Precision 3620 Tower, taken from the Components section of the System Configuration screen in support.dell.com for the Service Tag of my daughter's 3620. It came with a Samsung 512GB PM951 NVME as its boot drive.
It has one M.2 slot (there's also a second, unused, M.2 header on the motherboard.)
I assume it's 4 lane.
6JPHH - SCREW (M2X3.5) - 1
R7HGK - PAD, THERMAL (60x20x6.5) - 1
Hope that helps!

Great post! Yet I'm bit confused by "M.2 SATA" and "M.2 PCIe" - according to what I found out, these are not compatible with each other. From first post table, I don't really understand whether *all* models of Latitude 7480 are equipped wit motherboard supporting both M.2 SATA and PCIe - can't find any European seller offering 7480 with PCIe SSD, which is bugging me.
How is it with compatibility?

@Wdolek,
I double checked that link I gave you and it's for the U.S.. I swear I had the site set to UK.
I looked again through all the configurations and I too don't see any NVME options on the UK page.
The 7480 is available with NVME drive options so what you might do is start a chat with Dell sales at the below link and ask:

Greetings Wdolek,
The M.2 slots on all the mentioned systems in my post accommodate M.2 SATA drives and M.2 PCIE drives.
I searched around for you and on the UK page I found a 7480 link that allows for PCIE drive selections.

@Justin, thanks for you answer. I spoke with sales representative and he told me that:
- no device available supports PCIe
- he/they don't know when/if PCIe supporting model will be available in UK (DE, CZ, ... Europe in general)
I guess I will have to wait couple of months to see.
Anyway, I'm wondering what's price of M.2 PCIe slot in comparison with SATA one - why are there two "branches" of same model having such major difference (I would expect models to differ in capacities SSD/RAM or additional devices (attached to board)... and display).

@Wdolek,
Understood. I'll see if I can find someone in marketing to take a look at PCIE availability for Dell Europe.
I'll get back when I can.

@Wdolek,
My contacts advised that not listing the PCIE options on external site is intentional. I'll have to leave it at that. However, the 7480 can be customized with available PCIE options in Europe, if you get a hold of the correct sales person.
They gave me phone number:

@Justin
I'm looking to get one of the new model 5580's with U processor. I'd like to get it with standard 2.5" drive and ADD to it a Samsung 960 EVO PCIe NVMe drive and make it the boot/OS drive (while keeping the 2.5" drive"). Your guide indicates parts needed if adding M.2 *SATA* drive to the existing 2.5" bay. Are there no parts needed for simply adding an M.2 PCI drive? Thanks!

@Ccjb100,
Thank you for your question and for considering the Latitude 5580.
Looking further at this, the 5580's cache drive is a shorter 2242 B and M keyed drive. Which means it goes into the M.2 Slot and not the WWAN slot. Since this cache drive is shorter in length it doesn't get in the way, allowing for both a 2.5 drive and a cache drive to be installed at the same time.
Since the 2280 M keyed 4X drive is longer in length it does get in the way and does not allow space for a 2.5 inch drive to be installed.
The 5580 can be ordered in the below configs:
1 2242 B and M key cache drive and 1 2.5 inch drive
or
1 full length M.2 drive
Parts needed to install the single full length M.2 drive:
1x 2FFR0 end bracket
1x X3DN4 -Thermal plate
1x 4270E - End screw
Hope that helps.

Justin,
How do I purchase 2FFR0, X3DN4, and 4270E? I chatted with someone from Parts/Warranty and not for sure if they knew what I was talking about because they said they weren't available. Please provide direction. Thanks.

Justin, do the new class 50 drives exceed the throughput of a two lane PCIe connection?
