Dell Precision M6600 - make it running on Intel® HD 3000
Hello Dell Community!
I'm owner of an Dell Precision M6600 with AMD® M8900 FirePro GPU.
Because of compability issues i need to run or activate the buildin Intel® HD 3000 GPU.
Did anybody now how to do that?
Is is possible to to that by removing the AMD® FirePro? Or is the computer not working without GPU in the GPU Slot?
Many Thanks!
A.

Not all processors have built-in GPUs -- which one do you have?

Ok.
But - what happends when i remove the ATI video and leave the slot empty? Will the buildin GPU do the display job?

While that CPU does have a GPU onboard, I don't think the Fire series supports switchable graphics - so you must use the ATI video.

In Theory, I have not tested this myself, as long as you have the drivers for the Intel graphics, you should have video once you remove the ATI GPU. Please understand that it will be integrated video and won’t work well with any drawing or 3D applications.

Hello Terry!
Thanks, that sounds good. I will give it a try and i will remove the card next time.
I do not need high power 3d, and i'm happy about longer batterie time.
So i will also give a feedback if its working or not.
Greetings,
A.

I'm also curious, we have a bunch of M6600 that are used primarily for software development which doesn't require a high powered GPU. The battery life benefit of not having a dedicated GPU would be great. Can anyone confirm if this has worked for them?

I made an account just to answer this question, because I, too, ran into this issue. Long story short, the Precision M6600 WILL RUN ON INTEGRATED GRAPHICS if there is no AMD card installed. My boss had her AMD card fail just like many others did, and I disassembled the while computer, removed the card, and powered it back up, and just like that, no more video corruption. Runs fine on the HD3000 graphics.
Hope this saves someone the trouble of tearing this monstrosity down.

Yes, a simple bios switch to disable it would be nice. Join me in requesting this!
