Dell Studio 1558 Battery not recognised

I have a new battery for my laptop (genuine Dell) which was working fine until the other day when It stopped charging and now I have a red x on the battery symbol and error message 'No battery is dedected'

I have tried all the recommeded solutions but still the battery is no longer being recognised, is this now a motherboard problem or is there other actions i can take?

Obviously I can only use my laptop when plugged into the mains supply
