Dell Vostro 1400 CPU upgrade required - Any help?
Dear All,
I purchased a Dell Vostro 1400 in 2007 and it has served me VERY well over these years. I'm now moving into VM's and was wondering if it was possible to upgrade my current CPU (T5470) 1.6 GHz to a Intel-VT based CPU for my laptop?
If no one can provide an exact answer to my request, than I just need to know what is the maximum CPU allowed for my laptop?
Thank you.
Manish

The T7700 is the fastest CPU supported by that system.

Hi,
I suspected this one would work in my laptop – thanks for confirming!
One more question, is the T7500 CPU also compatible?
Thank you

Yes I can see,
but my only concern is. CPU-z say SOCKET 479. I have physically checked the mother board CPU socket, it's says SOCKET mPGA478MN. Is this a problem, does this socket supports Intel T7700. Although my one is also a Vostro 1400, can't there be differences. Please help me.
Thanks in advance

All Vostro 1400/Inspiron 1420 (same system) have the same socket.
This CPU is available in both pin-grid (socket 478 - what you need) and ball-grid (479). You CANNOT use the ball grid version - these CPUs are designed to be soldered to the mainboard - they cannot be used in a socketed board such as yours.
