Dell Webcam Central: No HD videos
Dear community,
I'm using Dell Webcam Central with version 2.0.46 and also tried out 2.0.44 on my Vostro 3450. Both with the same issue: I can't record videos anymore that have a higher resolution than 640 x 480. There comes up an error message that goes like this:
Videorecord not possible. Maybe there is a problem with the video or audio recording device.
I use the German version of it, so this is only a poor translation of the message. But it's strange! Last week I could record HD videos without any problems. I recorded videos in 1280 x 720 for almost three months. I assume this is a codec problem. But I have not installed any codec packs during the last time. Anyway do you know which codec is used for the avi files created by Webcam Central? In the meantime I wanted to use external software to record HD videos but I only can record with 10 fps if I choose a resolution higher than 640 x 480. Can you please help me?

Let's guess that ypou have Windows 7 installed. Try downloading the Windows 7 codecs and see if that helps.

Try changing the photo size to 1024 x 768 or smaller, then click on the video icon and try to record.

Unfortunately this did not help. As I said I think it is a video codec problem. But it would be easier for me to analyse it when I know which codec is used during *.avi recordings.
Anyway thank you very much for your help!

That is good information to know. I would not have guess that you needed Windows 7 codecs to use the HD part of Dell Webcam Central.

I think the codec package has overwritten a codec setting that I may have changed in ffdshow. I am not quite sure which one but it looks good now!

Hi Vostro3450user,
I guess you laptop has Full -HD webcam if i have not mistaken which says 1920 x 1080 pixels termed as FHD.Do check on this.

I had the same issue with 1920 x 1080. Finally, the problem was not a video codec but an audio codec. I've installed DivX_311alpha which is a video codec. Still it interfered with encoding WMA 9.1. Usually I need this codec to open wmv files in virtual dub and let the audio play correctly. As soon as the codec is uninstalled I am able to record HD videos in Dell webcam central again!

Welcome to the Community.
To download the Dell webcam central please use the link below for help.
Check the option for uninstall and reinstall the Webcam Central software.
support.dell.com/.../document
or
Use the below link to download the webcam software directly and see if its works (it shows for monitors but works on most of the systems also).

As i suggested you can try that link to download and see if it works.If it does not work try to follow the uninstall and reinstall guide on the first link.

Hi, I am using DEll XPS L502S, with windows 7(64 bit) Installed. My dell web cam is not recording HD quality videos. the minute I slect HD it gets stuck and stops working. On the right hand it says To use this feature select a video resolution lower than 1280 x 720. As suggested by Mr. Oliver I downloaded the coded and insatlled it but it yet has the same problem. kindly help.
