E7450 Fingerprint Reader Not working - Windows 8.1

It does not appear that the fingerprint reader on my Dell Latitude E7450 is working correctly after only 3 days of ownership.  When I try to Add Fingerprints under PC Settings > Accounts in Windows 8.1 it is not possible to register a fingerprint when asked.  The application just sits there waiting for my input indefinitely.  Of course, I am trying to place and swipe my finger(s) on the reader.

The Laptop came installed with Windows 7.   I decided to update immediately to 8.1.

Under the Device Manager I can see that there are drivers "correctly" installed for this device under both Biometric Device and ControlVault Device.  The drive is Control Vault with Fingerprint Swipe Sensor 6.1.76 from Broadcom.

I have also tried downloading the firmware from Dell at the link below.   However when I try to install the firmware update via Windows I receive a message that two DLL cannot be found:  BIPDLL.DLL and CVUSRIFC.DLL.  The expected folder for these two files is Windows\system32.

I am out of ideas on how I can get this fingerprint reader to work.   Any help is appreciated.

Hi,

I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the Fingerprint Reader driver on the system. Please follow the steps mentioned below to uninstall the video card.

  1. Click on Start button.
  2. In the search box type devmgmt.msc and then press enter.
  3. Select the Fingerprint Reader device and right click on it
  4. Now select properties.
  5. In the properties window, under Driver tab, click on Uninstall button.
  6. Check “Delete the driver software for this device.”
  7. You want to delete the driver click OK.

After the uninstall finishes restart the system. Then reinstall the Fingerprint Reader driver. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the OS, then download the Fingerprint Reader from Security section onto the system and install it.

Please let me know if this helps.

Thanks,

While the steps described did not immediately solve my issue, reinstalling the driver allowed me to install the updated firmware.  Once the firmware was updated the device started to work as expected.

The firmware install can be found in the same location as the driver.

I have a new Dell E7450 with Windows 8.1 installed, and when I try to scan fingerprints...nothing happens. As above, drivers look find in Device Manager.  I tried downloading the firmware, and running ushupgrade.exe as administrator, and I get the popup message that it cannot find C:\Windows\system32\bipdll.dll or C:\Windows\system32\cfusrifc.dll.  Any suggestions most appreciated.
