Entering ASCII characters via Dell XPS15 keypad

To my great surprise, I discover  that my new Dell XPS15 laptop has neither numeric keypad nor NUMLOCK key. So how can I input ASCII characters using the usual extended ASCII codes? On my previous XPS140, I used the FN+ALT keys and the numeric keypad.

I asked Dell Technical Support. They were of no help at all.

Hi,

 Thank you for reaching out to us.

 You can use Character Map utility which is preinstalled on all windows operating system.

 The location of the utility is mentioned below.

 Start Menu => All Programs => Accessories => System tools => Character Map

 Character Map utility displays a series of characters in a grid as shown in the image below.
