Error "The fingerprint reader is not connected. Connect the reader" on Dell Vostro 5470 Windows 8.1 Pro
Hi!
I have Dell Vostro 5470 laptop, with installed Windows 8.1 Professional 64-bit.
I have installed Fingerprint Driver and DigitalPersona 6.2 update, in different sequence, but still - the reader is visible at Device Manager, but NOT visible for Windows Fingerprint login or DigitalPersona.
I have searched and tried different solutions (including Fingerprint sensor drivers etc.).
Still no luck. And this seems to be some Driver issue from dell (latest sensor driver is y2013, and there are few forum threads still without solution).
No Events found!

Yes, we have found a solution! :)
In fact - the "problem" was connected with MS Windows Active Directory Group Policies. The "Biometric" logons and devices were not allowed in Group Policy.
If Yours computer is domain member, try this or similar solution: http://ittherapist.net/2012/05/24/windows-7-allow-domain-logon-using-biometrics-fingerprint-reader-6-2/

Seems to be at the root of it. Unfortunately, I'm at a remote site and found we're being blocked by group policy!

I have this same issue on a Latitude E5440 and Windows 7 x64. Have you had any luck resolving?

i have dell latitude E5430 ,windows 10 pro 64bit ,i installed the dell data protection utility from dell official web in order to use fingerprint reader but when i started application it says fingerprint reader is not connected ,,,, please help me,,i have istalled the drivers also showing working properly msg..

I did find solution for my problem. The reason in my case was Glboal Group Policy limitations in an Active Directory domain.
I can't tell You exactly, because they were resolved by AD admins later.

You don't have to use any log in application in Win 10, if the drivers where installed properly then you just have to use it in the accounts option and then in the sign in options
