Firewire iEEE 1394

Has anyone got an idea on the following problem please?

 

I have till recently transfered all my DV footage from my Sony PC100 camcorder to Desktop using a 4pin(camcorder) to 6pin(PC) firewire cable on platform windows 2000 with perfect results.

 

Now i am using a Dell inspiron 6400 laptop with firewire card and 4 pin to 4 pin cable on platform Windows XP BUT no camcorder is recognised!!

 

The obvious i have tried:

 

Installed drivers again

OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller visible and enabled

different firewire cable

power supply on camcorder

 

no joy!!

 

would really appreciate some help
