GM965 v 965GM

They are both part of the Intel® 965 Express Chipset Family.  The GM refers to the Intel Video portion (Graphics Media).

965 Chipset-based  Boards with the Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator(GMA).  Laptops use the 965GM as in Mobile version.  Intel uses many Letters BEFORE and After to refer to specific boards and versions.

Low Density Ram MUST BE USED with Intel Chipsets.

Thanks speedstop and I understand that both Dell and Intel both claim the same limitation for the chipset however two 4gig low density pc2-6400 sodimms do work fine in my D830. Taking those same two sodimms and placing them in the 1525 results in the following: 1- 4gig sodimm in slot A is recognized fine as 4gig (so the 2gig max is incorrect as is the case with the D830 specs). 2- 4gig sodimms and the laptop attempts to boot yet stops at about 95% of it's boot bar. Removing that second 4gig sodimm and replacing it with a 2gig sodimm boots fine allowing 6gig (so the 4gig total spec limit is incorrect as well as the 2gig slot limit). The initial boot of the 8gig total did take a while in the D830 however it was just the first time, subsequent boots are normal and I'm looking forward to ordering an ssd to go with the 8gig. I let the 1525 sit for 30min hoping it was the same thing but unfortunately it doesn't go past 95%. So irregardless of the incorrect limitations listed why, if they're the same chipsets, would both recognize a 4gig sodimm in one slot yet one only recognize a 2gig sodimm in the secondary slot? Bios?
