Help me purchase a Dell 9300 notebook

Question

We are looking into buying a 9300 notebook. Our primary use is to receive rather long documents, up to 100 pages, via the internet.  Secondary use would be an occasional game, or a movie. We're working out of a car, using the 6 cell  battery and the12vdc car adapter. We are thinking of the following hardware, and would appreciate some input as to whether this seems to be balanced for optimum performance, ie. best use of funds.   Screen: standard 17' ultrasharp, xga, 1440x900      Is the 1920x1200 a wiser choice? Processor: Pent. M, 740, 1.73GHz                            Is a faster processor necessary? RAM: 1GB                                                                   Is 500MB sufficient? Hard Drive: 60 GB 7200rpm                                       Is a 5400rpm drive sufficient? Optical: 24XCDRW/DVD (play only)                          ???DVD burner Video: 64MB ATI MOBIL RADEON                             Can upgrade to 6800 later if we play lots of games  Battery: 6 cell                                                              How many hours?     Whatta ya think guys?

For what you describe as your uses, the less expensive model is fine. I would stay away from the 64MB card though. It uses only 32MB of dedicated video memory. Everything else is shared, and you mentioned light gaming. Get the 128MB card as the minimum. It is all dedicated memory.

you should get the 1920x1200 heard dat the standard screen is horrible. if money iis a problem 512mb ram would be fine, and you should atleast get the x300 128mb vid card. the 6 cell would give you abit less than 3hrs.

1440x900 is working well for me. Do yourself a favor, order 1-piece 512mb from dell, and get yourself another outside. lots cheaper by 50%!
