Simply remove the battery. If the system won't run on AC power only, something is wrong (other than the battery) - either the adapter or system board is faulty.
In addition, current recommendation is to store the battery with about a 60% charge if you will not be using it for an extended period of time. I would put it back in periodically and see how the charge is doing. Shouldn't self discharge too fast, but it doesn't hurt to check. If a Lithium battery is allowed to discharge too far, it might not be able to be recharged.
I have an Inspiron N7010 and it is plugged in to electricity all the time. IF I unplug it, about how long will the battery last? It is about 98% battery power.
There is no single answer. WIth aggressive power management (dim display/hard drive spindown/low CPU speed) a 9-cell battery, you could see four hours or more. With a 4- or 6-cell and/or constant use with a bright display and no hard drive spindown, you could see less than two hours.
I want to use my laptop on AC power, and I have never done this before. How do I use it on AC power, are there any precautions I need to know? Are there any risks? Thanks.

I didn't say that quite right, but thank you for that added info. I would like to know how many hours the battery will last.

It will last until power gets down to 3% and then shut off.

You do not need a battery i place to use a laptop. It now works like a desktop - no battery backup in case of a power failure.
