How to reload Windows 7 on a new HDD
Hi
I need to replace my hdd on my inspiron 17 (N7010). Now my question is how do I reload Windows 7 as this laptop came with no disks?
The laptop is currently functioning fine but running backup the other day resulted in failure. Running Dell Diagnostics flagged up bad sector on hdd.
No Events found!

If Windows is still working, you can make a set of recovery DVDs (or flash drive) using the Dell Backup and Recovery (or earlier Dell Datasafe) utility on the hard drive. If that doesn't work, you'll have to contact Dell to purchase the recovery media.

As rightly suggested by "ejn63", you can use Dell Backup and Recovery (or earlier Dell Datasafe) utility to create recovery disk. If that does not work, request recovery disk using the link below:

Thanks for your reply.
I can see Dell Datasafe in the menu, so am I right in saying that by making a set of recovery dvd's or flash drive, all I will have to do is remove the faulty hdd and replace with new hdd and then use the datasafe that will load my windows 7?
Will it load any other stuff like my programs, drivers etc or just factory settings?

The recovery media will restore the system to the state it was in when you received it. Anything you added after that will be lost and need to be reloaded.

Thanks for your replies.
I have ordered a new hdd and made the datasafe backup, so fingers crossed and I will let you know how I get on.

I think a better and easier option would be to "clone" your working HDD to the new drive. I just did it with a laptop and desktop with failing drives.
You'll need a free disk cloning program and a cheap SATA to USB adapter. I used EaseUS Todo Backup Free and was up and running with a new drive in less than an hour.

Ive just fitted the new hdd and reloaded windows 7 etc.
The problem I now have is that when I check which drivers need updating the dell system analysis is showing the following:
