How to use OEM-Partition?
Hi
I have Notebook Vostro V131.
There are 3 factory primary partitions:
1.) 100MB OEM-Partition
2.) 14,65GB Recovery Partition
3.) 283,34GB OS Partition
Can anyone pls explain why do I have this 100MB OEM-Partition and, do I really need it?
If this is a DELL partition, how exactly works to start DELL tools installed on this partition?
BTW I need just 2 primary partitions for Win7 and 5 partitions, 1 primary and 4 logical for Linux.

The OEM partition contains the Dell diagnostics -- it's used by pressing F12 at powerup.
If you're going to repartition the disc, it's best to leave that one. Once you do the repartitioning, the recovery partition will be useless - so you can sacrifice that.
Be sure you've prepared a set of recovery DVDs before you do that, though:

My interesting situation is that on my daughter's XPS 13, with 120 GB of solid state HD, the oem partiion is 39 Gbytes, not 100 Mbytes. Is this a setup error? 1/3 of the memory is useless, and at the price for it, that's not very positive. Any idea how to treat this? Reformat with a clean recovery?

Oops! Old age has screwed up my vision. I was confused by the length of the blue bars in the management app. OEM is only 39 MBytes. Only problem is the hibernate partition is 8 gig, 0% used, and the recovery partition is 18.25 gig, 56% used. I think I can shrink the latter and remove the hibernate part. Owner says with solid state drive, no need to hibernate. So, only 15% of the drive (8 gig + ~10 gig from shrinking recovery part).
I've read that I might have to give the partitions drive letters. That sound right??
