If you mean that the keyboard is having a problem distinguishing between upper and lower case characters, then you need a new keyboard.  Period.  Either send it in for a replacement, or take it to a shop that specializes in servicing Dell notebooks, and have them do it.

After running setup from dos the only keys that are not responding are the 'Delete' & 'Arrow down' The other keys are okay. This seems to reoccur when running setup from windows 98se. If it is the keyboard as soon as I can find my waranttee, then I could do that. The 'Delete' key & 'Arrow down' was working before running setup under windows 98se.

I can't find anything related to "IAP" as far as common error messages/conflicts go.  Is this something you've installed, or is it showing up with only Windows installed?  Have you run the Dell Diagnostics (details are in your System Documentation), to rule out any possible hardware problems?  If not, you should.

The IAP is part of the Systems Management: Dell Openmanage IT Assistant. The invalid page fault (IPF) is rather recent. After I removed the checkmarks for all the Openmanage IT .exe items the IPF errors have stopped.

I need to find out if the Dell Openmanage IT is benefitial on my home network. maybe it would be better to omit it since the laptop is the only Dell I have. We have two other desktops that were built by a local vendor.

As for documentation, The laptop was bought used & did not come with documentation. No doubt, there are documents in the support area that I could downlaod to make up for not having documentation. The local vendor that I bought it from installed an OEM windows 98se in place of the NT that was originally purchased by the company that leased the laptop.

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/pcpxhj/  Choose your language, and download away.  For the .pdf stuff (the Service Manual is all you'll need in that category), you'll need to right-click on those links and select "Save As," and download them to your drive, as attempting to open those large files on line may very well cause something akin to a critical meltdown under Win98.

You're much better off with Windows 98SE.
