IDE Controller missing
I use the laptop Inspiron B120. In Device Manager it shows a red x-mark for the
AUY6QKA2 IDE Controller under "SCSI and RAID-Controller"
and I try to find a driver for this.
Can somebody help me with this?
I appreciate your help very much indeed, because after each
restart the FOUND NEW HARDWARE WIZARD pops up.
Thank you
Henning

The laptop all of a sudden shows this red x-mark? For no reason at all?

Dear IEEE488:
Sorry for not being precise enough. I'm quite confused - here is the reason why.
No, this driver was marked yellow for years. And had no effect on my computer as far as I can tell.
Last week, the monthly Windows Update damaged the update function of my computer (and many
other computers). The file svchost.exe runs 100% CPU forever, when update is triggered.
Just look at this:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-windows_update/windows-update-died-tried-many-solutions-still/7d5ec39f-086f-471f-a713-b195d4c4b24d?page=2&tm=1384388121448#LastReply
After countless checks and adjustments, one technician from Microsoft (?) asked me to use msinfo32, which brought
up, that this IDE Controller doesn't work (Error Code 39). So I was asked to uninstall and reinstall
this driver. Uninstall worked, but I see no way how to reinstall it. I tried Windows Update, which of course
doesn't work, I tried it with the wizard for new hardware the OS-Reinstallation disc and the Dell-Driver-Disc.
Didn't work.
I don't know, what to do. I'm occupied by this trouble with Windows Update since Friday.
I really appreciate any kind of help.
Best regards
Henning
P.S.: Right now, the IDE Controller in the section "SCSI and RAID-Controller" is marked yellow again.

I went to that webpage, entered my service tag, and the system showed me
3 (filtered) categories: Audio, Diagnostic and Video.
Unfiltered there are 10 categories.
In which category can I find that driver? Does it have a name?
Sorry for those questions, but I want to do it right.
Thank you and best regards
Henning

You need to start with the drivers in the order listed in the article.
First two should solve your problem.
