IRRT vs ATA
We have been receiving systems from Dell as of later that, in the BIOS, they are set to use IRRT when it is a single drive configuration of a workstation/laptop.
According to Intel (http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/imsm/sb/cs-026142.htm) this is used when you have a RAID setup for faster data transfer between drives of a RAID.
Why would this be the BIOS configuration for a system that is using a single drive? We have to change this to the ATA function before our image becomes functional.

I can't speak for the Dell engineers, but I rather suspect that they ship them that way so that the user can easily make use of the AHCI features that aren't available in ATA mode.

Then why wouldn't the default be set to just AHCI in the BIOS? AFAIK, IRRT does not add anything to AHCI capabilities or speed, other than RAID. But for single-drive E series laptops, for example, IRRT does not seem to make much sense (as the default option)...
