Inspiron 14R 5437 Touchscreen Stopped Working!

I bought an Inspiron 14R about four months ago. The touchscreen worked fine until maybe a month ago. It was after the computer had some sort of update that the touchscreen stopped working. Does anyone have any clue if there is a driver or something that I can download to fix this problem?

Hi CypherXavier,

Welcome to Dell community.

You may update the BIOS and chipset driver for your system.

The link for BIOS is http://dell.to/1v2k6fi

Note: Before updating BIOS please ensure that:
*Battery is 10%> or >10% charged
*Battery charger should be connected
*No external devices (flash drives, printers, external hard drives) should be connected.
*All other programs should be closed and documents saved

Install the Chipset driver from the link http://dell.to/1ziZRbg.

Also, you may refer to the link below for steps on calibrating touch screen. You may try the steps.

The link is http://dell.to/1bgrysi.

Please share the screenshot of Device Manager with Display adapters expanded.

  • Press ‘Windows’ key + R on ‘Desktop’ screen
  • Type ‘devmgmt.msc’ in run box and press ‘Enter’
  • Click > sign next to ‘Display adapters’

Keep me posted with the results. I will be glad to assist you further.

The link for BIOS is http://dell.to/1v2k6fi tells me that the driver no longer exists. I did install the Chipset driver. I also went into Device Manager. So far the touchscreen is still not working.

I went to the new link and downloaded the BIOS update and when I tried to run it I got a message telling me that it can't flash to the same update. Apparently, I already have the latest version. I also noticed that when I look in the system info it says next to Pen and Touch: No Pen or Touch Input is available for Display. How is that possible when I know for a fact it has a touchscreen?

Hi CypherXavier,

It is unfortunate that the touchscreen is not working. Request you to try following the below steps and check if it works:

(1) Move the mouse pointer to the top right corner and click on search.

(2) Now type device in the search box, select settings and hit enter.

(3) On the left side device manager appears, click and open it.

(4) In the device manager screen, double click human Interface device and select touchscreen drivers.

(5) Now right click on it and select uninstall.

(6) Now restart the computer and check if the touchscreen works.

If the issue still persists then the computer needs to be refreshed. You may use the below link for information on refresh:

http://bit.ly/TLZ9mS (read through Refresh your PC without affecting your files)

Now check if the issue is fixed. If not, then do send me the system service tag via private message. I will check and let you know what can be done.

To send a private message, click on my user name and select start conversation.

Note: Please backup your files before attempting this.
