Have you made any changes to the system setup?

If not, check your system setup (F2 at powerup).  Is there a hard drive showing in the list?

If not, the drive has likely failed - if you post the system model number (i.e., Inspiron N5110, 5531, etc.) someone can recommend a replacement drive (assuming it the system is out of warranty; if it's in warranty, call Dell and they'll replace the drive).
