Inspiron 1501 battery charge problem

Hi all,

I have a problem with my Inspiron 1501: battery won't charge over 22%. I drain the battery to null charge and I try to recharge battery and it stop to charge at 22%. The charger led is always ON forever. When a press the battery test button, I get 2 leds. The AC adapter is OK because the laptop can work with this (without battery). I have the latest bios (2.6.3) too.

Should I buy a new battery (battery problem) or it is system board charger problem? Anybody else have a solution?

Thanks.

If the battery is over say 1 year old it's shot. Under a year and you may get a warranty replacement if it's covered with your unit. I would get a new one since they run about $70-100 to keep from damaging the charging circuits. I see this alot when the battery has bad cells and hey, its a consumable item.

Yes, my laptop is over one year old (exactly 1½year old) and warranty is not applicable. I will buy a new battery and I assume that charger circuit on system board is OK.
