Inspiron 1520 - Upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7

I have a Inspiron 1520.  It was running Windows Vista before.  But now I have upgraded to Windows 7 but cannot find a match Dell Touchpad.

Please if anybody can advise a solution.

Many thanks

Its sometimes a bit hit and miss for the Touchpad Drivers.

Try the Windows 7 Driver offered by Dell for the Inspiron 1520 on the Legacy Input Device Drivers/Dell FTP Website for the Inspiron 1520:

http://ftp.dell.com/Browse_For_Drivers/Laptops/Inspiron/Inspiron%201520/

This one version 14.0.2 A01 (Synaptics) which lists Windows 7 32 Bit and Windows 7 64 Bit:

http://ftp.dell.com/input/DELL_TOUCHPAD----POINTING-ST_A01_R241874.exe

If the driver is listed on this page, Dell would have done some testing with it.

Edit: I made a mistake in the post above and gave you an Alps Touchpad Driver and not a Synaptics one. This system should have a Synaptics Touchpad.

Hi hwcmga,

Dell Inspiron 1520 has not been tested with Windows 7 Operating system. Consider installing vista drivers in compatibility mode.

Hi Ravi,

What do you mean by compatibility mode?  I do not understand.

I tried to install from the originally diskette of Inspiron 1520 Windows Vista (32-bits).  But it says the OS does not match.

Look forward to hearing from you again.

Use the drivers here:

http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/driver-sets/inspiron-laptops-windows-7/

For the Touchpad in particular install this driver:

http://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER00538342M/8/Input_ALPS_W7_A01_Setup-R2GJ4_ZPE.exe

I assume you tried to install 64 Bit Windows 7 which is likely why the Vista 32 Bit driver provided by Dell won't work (as the driver itself has no x64 folder for R175658).

Thanks for you all support. Unfortunately I have tried all drivers in web provided and none of them is working perfectly. Some drivers hang the mouse. Some do not but cannot get the slide bar working. Any other suggestion ... Many thanks

Great, thanks for posting back to let us know that you got it working. :emotion-21: Enjoy Windows 7. I have updated my unofficial driver set to state that its a Synaptics Touchpad and not an Alps Touchpad.
