Inspiron 1564 and Sound 5.1 problem

the jack is 2.1mm

It is probably a standard jack -- 3.5mm.

I found that my Inspiron 1564 has 5.1 Soundcard (pls correct me if m wrong)

Hello. You can go to the Inspiron 1564 documents page and download the one named "Comprehensive Specifications".  In the Audio section it says you have 2 channel audio produced by a Realtek ALC269Q-GR audio chip. For really comprehensive specifications, you can download the ALC269 Data Sheet from the Realtek site, but that document also says the chip is 2 channel. Where did you see the information that you have 5.1 audio?

Even if you did have 5.1audio, there is no way to directly connect 5.1 surround speakers  to your laptop. You could get an external 5.1 audio card and connect them to it. That kind of sound card would support 5.1 audio regardless of the audiocontroller in the laptop.

You have an HDMI port on your laptop. The audio that goes through that port is controlled by the video (graphics) driver, not the audio controller. Possibly you could get 5.1 audio through that port. You would have to connect that port to a device that also has an HDMI port -- usually a TV -- and the device would have to be able to decode the surround channels.

I got the way to check my sound card on internet. That guy wrote that:

- In device manager

- Locate Sound, video, game controller

- Right click and select properties

- Click on details and choose Lower logo version in Property in the drop down

- If it's 5.1, it will show 5.1

and in my case, it shows 5.1, this mean my laptop sound card is support 5.1

I don't know whether that way is correct!
