Inspiron 5000e dead motherboard
I purchased a 5000e Laptop 3 yrs and 5 moths ago. It is 5 months out of warranty and the MB is dead. In the 3yrs that I owned it the case had to be replaced due to a design flaw, the mb (twice) and cpu was replaced. I spent $3500 on this machine. This machine was a personal use machine and it cant even last. I called tech support to identify the cause of the machine failure, and it was determined that the Motherboad is dead. They said it would cost $269 for repairs, and $699 for the part.....
I didnt expect that it would last for ever. I expected a hard drive to fail, or the cd drive to quit. But the Mother board.......It should at least last for 5 yrs , SO I thought.....Iam Really dissatified with DEll. What kind of junk do you sell.... I have purchased thousands of dollars of Dell Equipment,. @ machines just last year.....But I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER DELL LAPTOP

Dell Tech,
When I contacted your tech support and we determined that the mother board was dead, I then stated that I would like to talk to a Manager, because I thought that it was notright that a machine should fail, with lthe light use that I used this machine. He stated that it would be a month for me to talk to a Manager.....and I needed to make an appointment to talk to someone....again totally unacceptable.....This must be the New Dell....
IF you care to comment on this DELL....Please respond...

Dell doesn't usually respond on these boards, since they're user-to-user. If you want to get a response from Dell, you could post on the Customer Care forums.
But, I don't think you're going to get anywhere with Dell on this issue. If the failure had been within your warranty period, it would have been replaced, no problem. But outside of the warranty period, neither Dell nor any other computer company is going to replace parts for free, even if you feel like the part shouldn't have failed. That's the whole point of a warranty.
You can try looking on ebay for Inspiron 5000 motherboards... sometimes people buy broken systems and sell them for parts, so you may be able to get a motherboard for less than Dell is offering to sell them for. And all of the documentation is here, if you want to do the replacement yourself:

Thanks for the information,
I want people to know that Dell has had many problems with there machines, many due to an over heating issues for this series of laptops. I find it is total unacceptable for this tpye of envestment to fail like this.
Its like your pay for a new car, and under warranty the electrical systems burns up a few times, they bandaid it, it fails again, they bandaid it again. Knowing all along that they have serious design issuses with it. Then your warranty expires, and they just say, Oh well you should have bought a longer warranty. So what if your investment is gone. Here is a shop that can fix your peice of junk.
Dell does not design there own Laptops, the Spec build then. Someone else designs then, they just select what goes in it and stick there name on it and collect the profits. My next Purchase will not be a Dell.
I bet if I was a Big corporation, they would fix it, that Im sure of. AT work a new Dell Laptop workstation had the same type of issue, we just lost one the other day.

Anyway is it a coincidence that they have recalled the power adapters and prior to this the batteries and could that have had anything to do with the premature motherboard failure??
