Inspiron 580 Headphone Jack Not Working

I have a Inspiron 580  hooked up to my Flatscreen TV via HDMI. and the playback is set to my TV. My TV has no headphone jack and I wish to listen thru my PC headphone jack. When I hook it up the jack produces no sound. Adjusting the sound volume on my PC has no effect. Ideas?

Hi Dixieboy1,

Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 supports only one default audio device. The HDMI out (HDMI Audio) is selected as the default device and the playback is set to your TV. You will need to select the sound card as the default sound device to listen through the PC headphone jack. Please follow the steps provided below to set the soundcard as the default audio device:

1.Right click on the Speaker on the bottom right corner of the screen and select "Playback devices".
2.In the list click on "Speakers(High Definition Audio Device) and click on the "Set Default" tab.
3.Click "OK".

You will now be able to listen through the headphones and the TV will only receive the video signal via HDMI. You will need to set the HDMI Audio as the default device, if you would like to listen to the audio via TV by following the steps provided above.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Audio Jack is not working after installed Windows 10 Pro.

Hello. If your computer is an Inspiron 580 please post on the Desktop Audio board (this is the Laptop Audio board.)

If your computer is a laptop model then please state the full model name.

Windows 10 has a lot of problems handling audio and the jack not working is a common failure of that OS. Try installing a fresh copy of the audio driver for your model but if that does not help then try the Windows native audio driver. If still no luck then I would suggest that you revert back to your previous operating system, or as a workaround you could get a usb audio jack.
