Inspiron 6400 processor upgrade?

Dear All,

I have an Inspiron 6400 which I have upgraded the RAM to 4Gb and the drive to a 7200rpm drive but I still have the original T2060 1.6GHz processor on board and it is struggling with the very heavy process intense applications I'm using (energy modelling and fluid flow simulation).   What is the max processor I can get in it?  I'd love to stick a quad core in it, but not sure the bios would support it.  I'm sure there must be a faster processer that I can put in it as I can remember at the time when I bought it I didn't pay for the fastest as what I'm using it for now wasn't it's intended use.

Any help/comments gratefully appreciated.

Cheers

Paul

The three fastest options:  T7200, T7400, T7600.  These are all out of production and have been for some time now - socket M ended with this model system.  They may still be available used.

NOT supported:  any of the newer Socket P or 989 CPUs, anything needing a 1066 MHz bus.  Nothing quad-core -- these are all the newer Socket 989 CPU, which is totally incompatible with all older systems.
