2) Toshiba
3) Dedicated
4) Mostly Samsung and Sharp, some some get a Hitachi. You do not get a choice, but if you dont like the LCD that was sent (the Sharps and Samsungs are great, the Hitachis are sub par), you can always send it back and request a different one.
5) People have been getting on or the other...others might be answer this betterto answer

Thank you for your reply. How do you get this information from what? How do you know what motherboard manufacture for dell is? Is it when you go to dell's website and you click on the "Original Configuration" it tells who is the manufacture motherboard, hard drive and all that stuff? I do not have a dell computer notebook. I build my own computer so I do not have a brand name computer. For notebooks I need a brand name computer so that is why I want to know this kinds of specs. By the way for the 100GB HD who is the manufacture for this drive?. I am planning to buy this computer and get the 100GB for this notebook.
Thank you

Thank you for your reply. I am so happy that now I know what I am getting inside a dell notebook. Yes you have lots of experience from DELL. I am guessing you use dell notebooks a lot. Thank you very much for information on the HD. This is good information for me. Now I know what I am getting from my dell notebook.
Also one more thing I am also intersted in Dell Desktops. Can you tell me which manufacture makes dell motherboard for desktops? It should be one of the huge Taiwanese company like Asus,ESS,Biostar etc. Thank you very much in case if my friends do decide buy a dell machine and I can his/her fix computers though. I have experience in desktop computers but not in notebooks.

The 2400 and 4600 systems are built for Dell by MiTac of Taiwan (they're made in China).
Most of the custom parts (like the system board) for other Dell desktops (8300, etc.) come from Foxconn, a major contract manufacturer based in Singapore.
Even Intel no longer makes its own boards - it contracts the manufacture to the same sources Dell does (Foxconn, and with servers, Solectron and Celestica, etc.).

Thank you for your reply. Oh there OEM Intel motherboards. I never knew that. I always though that they are from hugh motherboard manufactures like Biostar or something like that. I think most other "BIG" manufactures uses the same spec too and they use Asus motherboard like HP.
Thanks
Have a great day.

Thank you for your response. Oh in these series they are build by a china manufacture. I know dell has signed contracts with different manufacture but I do not know which ones. Um since I built my own computer (Not a brand name)CLONE. I use Asus or Biostar or other manufacture. I though "DELL" uses this manufactures. I guess all manufactures (Intel) uses from this same sources. So my guess that the other Dells desktop(OptiPlex) uses the same sources though.
Thank you so much for this information. A apperciate it.
Oh by the way I read in here that some of the people who uses a dell laptop has a problem with their LCD screens or stuck keyboards or some other stuff and dell sends a refurbished parts to there laptop which I understand. But this is strange won't this viold the warrenty that dells tell you to open the notebook and fix yourself?
Have a nice day

Back with the XPS-R, Intel was making its own boards -- those are OEM Intel-built boards.
Foxconn started out as a connector manufacturer - it has diversified significantly -- the company now makes everything from chassis, mainboards and power supplies to cellular phones.
Ghost manufacturing in the electronics industry is widespread - very few companies make their own notebooks any longer, and most wireless phone and other handheld gear is contracted out - even companies that used to produce their own handhelds (like Palm) now have ASUS, Wistron, etc., do the work for them.
