Inspiron N4010 Will not restore
I'm attempting to restore my Inspiron N4010, windows 7 back to factory settings so that my son can use it. I follow the instructions and bring up the advanced boot menu and select repair; then the laptop starts up as normal. No changes. I've tried this several times with the same result. I haven't found anything online to help. What can I do. Help, please?

Hi Tcjones30
Thanks for writing to us.
Was the machine every formatted in the past? If yes, then the restore partition would have been deleted completely.
If not formatted, the chances could be the factory image might been corrupted because of which the system is not restoring to the factory image.
With regards to ***I follow the instructions and bring up the advanced boot menu and select repair; then the laptop starts up as normal. *** do you mean once you select repair your computer the system doesn't taken you to the next screen of options but boots into windows normally??
Regards
Hema

Thanks, Hema. Yes, that's exactly what I happens when I select repair, the systems boots normally the same way it does if 'start Windows normally' is selected. No difference.
A number of years ago the machine had a virus & one of my IT guys at work, at the time, took care of it. I don't know what he did. Maybe that's why?

Hi Nice to hear from you.
From the f8 menu are you able to load the safemode ? Also run the diagnostics from f12 menu. If the test passes, consider reinstalling the windows afresh from disc.
