Installing Ubuntu Netbook edition on DELL Mini 9 WITHOUT a USB Key?

Hi

I'm about to buy a second-hand DELL Mini 9 netbook here in Spain where I'm living and teaching (and my laptop just go stolen).

My problem with it is that it has Spanish Windows on it....

  • I have no interest in keeping or using Spanish Windows...
  • I want a simple free reliable Netbook OS

Therefore my solution is to download Ubuntu Netbook Remix ...

But on the website http://www.ubuntu.com/netbook/get-ubuntu/download it says I need a bootable USB Key to trial it first...

Isn't there a way to just install it directly with no USB Key?

thanks for any help or advice

Philip

You can install Ubuntu from a CD drive, but if this Mini 9 doesn't come with one, then you are left with just the USB stick. You can also install Ubuntu from within Windows using Wubi.

Ourman...,

In addition to IEEE488's link, this one gives step by step instructions on how to install Ubuntu on a Netbook from a USB stick.

http://www.ubuntu.com/netbook/get-ubuntu/download

Hope this info helps.
