Installing XP on 2500 laptop, refuses to use LCD as primary display...

While researching, I saw this problem a few times in the forum. I'm a technical person, so I can elaborate on it. When Windows XP is first installed, everything functions perfectly until the system is restarted from the Desktop. After the WinXP splash-screen logo, the Desktop or Welcome Screen will not appear. I poked around and figured out that the laptop is switching to an external display. I checked the CMOS setting and made sure that it was set to LCD-only mode, but it still does this; even after reinstalling Windows XP. The option in the CMOS appears to do absolutely nothing. Also, I noticed that "Display Cache Memory" is reported as "0 MB", and cannot be adjusted. Is that the setting for shared memory that is allocated to the video chipset? If so, it would probably be the reason why Windows will not provide the option for 32-bit color.

 

When the black screen appears and I hear the sound of the Desktop, I can hibernate (not sleep) the laptop, then reboot and trick it into using the LCD. When I do so, I see the resolution increase from 640x480 to 1024x768 and the notification bubble appears telling me that WIndows is about to attempt to change the resolution, even though it has already been done.

 

Is it possible to force the BIOS to report the LCD as the primary display?

 

How can I unlock more advanced BIOS CMOS Setup options?
