Integrated Webcam - Distortion and flipped photos

Hello.
After reinstalling Windows, I got some problems with the webcam.. Now it flips every photo horizontally and also distorts it.

I already searched for drivers on 'Dell Support' but there are no drivers for the camera... The one which is installed is from 2006 (from Microsoft - http://i.imgur.com/cAXDOa1.png ).

I tried the Dell Webcam Center too (before that I was using the Camera app on Windows 8.1), and it didn't distort the photos, but only when they were taken in 480p. In 720p I got the same problems.

Anyone had a similar problem? How can I solve this?

My notebook is an Inspiron 3521, with Windows 8.1.

Hi lFalcao,

I would suggest you to update the BIOS and Video card driver on the system. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the OS, then download the BIOS from BIOS section and Video card driver from Video section onto the system and install it.

Also, please follow the steps mentioned in the link below for issue resolution.

  1. Move the mouse cursor to the upper right corner of the screen until the Charms Bar appears.
  2. Click Search.
  3. Right-Click Computer.
  4. Click Properties.
  5. Click Device Manager in the upper left-hand corner.
  6. Click the arrow to the left of Imaging devices
  7. Right-click Integrated webcam or USB camera.
  8. Click Uninstall.
  9. Confirm the uninstall process by clicking OK.
  10. Once uninstalled, restart the computer.

Note: Windows 8 (8.1) will automatically detect and install the Webcam drivers.

Hi, thanks for answering.

I updated the BIOS to the A12 version. The video card driver is already updated to the latest version.
I uninstalled the driver through the device manager and restarted, but the problem persists..

Hi lFalcao,

I would suggest you to run the test on Webcam on the system.

1.       Open the link http://dell.to/14YjKb2

2.       Select ‘Hardware’ under ‘Advanced’ tab.

3.       Select ‘Camera’.

4.       Click on ‘Run Diagnostics’ button.

5.       Let me know if the results.

Also, please install skype software on the system and check if the issue reoccurs.

It passed all tests. http://i.imgur.com/VnNDuKc.png

Skype was already installed here, so I uninstalled to see if it would change anything (nothing changed), and installed again, but the problem is still there.

Maybe the original driver was made or modified by Dell...

Hi.

The camera works normally in this site, and the photos taken there are not mirrored, and that's what I wanted (:

So I think the 'problem' is in the Windows 8.1 Camera app, which uses this mirroring function. The app doesn't have an option to change that too...

Anyway, I'll just look for another program to use, or maybe I can use the site you recommended.

Thanks for the help, Ravi BC.
