Integrated Webcam "Already In Use" Inspiron 1545R

Hey everyone. I bought my Inspiron in early August 2010. I used the standard integrated webcam for Skype and such. However, it recently tells me that the webcam is in use by another program, and that I have to close that program. I can't use my webcam anymore :( Dell Webcam Central says "Close the other streaming video application to use." I've tried the usual prescriptions: plug in a USB mouse while Webcam Central is open, uninstalled then reinstalled the drivers for the webcam, but nothing is working. Does anyone know what I can do? Thanks a million.

Hi Troy

Welcome to the Community. Error message " close the other Streaming video application in use " this shows that another software is using it at the same time. If its not Skype then I guess its the Facial Recogination software. Try disabling that software and check if it works. In the mean time I will try and get a permanent solution to this issue.

Thank you

Thanks for the welcome.

That's what you'd think, that I have some other software open and using the camera, but that's not the case. I don't have any facial recognition software. Skype gives me the message of "Webcam already in use. Close background application." or something like that. I really don't know what could be "using" my webcam....

Nope :/ I'm guessing it's a virus. It's also disabled my touchpad from scrolling my screen, and other stuff like that. I need to do a clean wipe and start over I guess.

PittPens1787,

If your computer has Fast Access Facial Recognition software, in order to use it with skype, you need to open skype, click on tools, video settings. You should see...

From the dropdown menu, select FA Virtual Cam. This will allow you to use the webcam with Skype.

Rick,

No, this is not the solution. With FA Virtual CAM, I only see seven color stripes.

I really pity that Dell still does not have a solution!!

I have the same problem as Sanjay.

And Dell, doesn't have a solution! Makes false diagnostics. How? This way:  If my webcam shows 7 color stripes it means that it's not working properly! But the diagnostics says: everything is working fine!

You go to Dell Drivers and Downloads - there is no list with drivers you need, why? because Dell gives those automatically and you cannot locate the driver download it to your hard disk and this way do a reinstall. or at least remove the corrupted 7 color strip showing webcam driver and install a new one! Dell doesn't want you to fix the problem, Dell wants to give you what they want to give ... run the scan, scan says everything is cool, but your webcam on a 1,550 USD laptop IS NOT WORKING!!

So dear Dell user, enjoy watching 7 color strips, and show them to the World via Skype!
