Hi

Tracy

I would suggest you to check the brightness with in the BIOS screen. To get to the BIOS screen please restart the system and tap F2 on Dell logo.

In case the brightness issue is not in BIOS screen then I would recommend you to load the factory defaults additionally update the bios version.

Update the BIOS by going to support.dell.com and enter the service tag number. You will find the latest BIOS.

Note: (Please ensure that the charger is plugged in and battery is charged at least 10%)

However, if the brightness issue is inside the BIOS screen then would like you to check with any external monitor. If it works fine then we need to replace the LCD of laptop.

In order to help you better please reply with computer model number and operating systems which you are using?

If this does not work out please refer to the below mentioned link:

Hope this will help you

Thanks & Regards

Just one more question the support.dell.com website give me the list of recommended  drivers for audio, video,network.... is it neccessary to download all of them and have my laptop updated. I have not updated my drivers since i bought my lap in 2010. I am very appreciated your help.
