Is it ok to use my Vostro laptop on AC power without my battery attached?

Hi,

Is it ok to use my laptop on the mains power without the battery attached? Our kids use the laptop to play games at times and as the battery is starting to loose some of its health I was wondering if it is ok to remove the battery (charged between 20 and 98%)  whilst they play their games. I have the laptop plugged into a surge protector at all times.

The battery will still be put on after use and allowed to discharge and charge at least a couple of times a week. I was also wondering if I should allow the battery to fully drain occasionally?

Any advice will be gratefully received.
