Is this laptop screen broke, or something else?
I recently received a used (and slightly broken) Dell Inspiron 1545. The previous owner told me the screen was broken, but they couldn't remember what happened. I was going to order a new screen for it, but I want to be positive it's the screen and not something inside. There are physically no marks on the screen, no cracks or anything else. It looks almost like something spilled from the inside. It really doesn't look like a screen issue to me, but I'm certainly no computer expert. I will attempt to attach a photo of what it looks like. Its right in the center of the screen and it resembles what audio lines look like in editing programs, except it's vertical. Any ideas?

Check whether or not it appears on an external monitor. It looks like it may be paint or ink on the outside, try using some isopropyl rubbing alcohol on the screen.

It does not appear on an external monitor. We have cleaned the screen and it is not anything in the outside. Also, when the computer is off it can still be seen. And when I move the mouse when it's on I can see the mouse go under it.

It sounds as if theres an ink spill inside the monitor, i.e. in the inner glass.
