Ispiron 6400 - screen does not return after closing notebook

just brought an inspiron 6400 and when i close the lid i cant get the display back afterwards, iv tryed telling it to go to standby and then pressing power etc, and iv tried telling it to do nothing when the lid is closed: when i did this, the computer continued to run (music was still playing and i could shut it down via the keyboard (win-u-u)) but the screen refused to come back on....anyone know of a driver or anything that'll fix this

that happens to me sometimes, but not all the time. I believe it's because many driver for the moniter was installed or something.  I don't know about that.

I had the same problem on my inspiron 6400 which is 2 weeks old . I talked to dell tech and thay wanted to reistall everything to the factory default !!. I noticed on my wife's notebook that the modem was malfunctioning error when trying to  close the lid so I went disable it and now you can close the lid for stand by mode.If you are not using your modem, go disable it, I did on my notebook and also worked. I have high speed internet, so disabling the modem is no. big deal !!
