LED battery indicator flashes 5 orange, then one long green

LED battery indicator flashes 5 orange, then one long green.  This happens intermittently about twice a week.  I cant find anywhere what this error code means.  Reading through some of these forums, I found many stating that the battery is defective.  Ive had my Inspiron 5100 for 8 months, and am not experiencing any lack of battery performance.   If the battery does need to be replaced, thats fine.  Just tell me how I am supposed to explain that to DELL.  I gave them this exact info, and they sent a link about extended battery life, and didnt even acknowlegde the flashed LED error code.

2 questions...

1.  What does this exact error code mean (LED battery indicator flashes 5 orange, then one long green)

2.  If it does require a repalcement, how should I better explain DELL the problem, so when they read their scripts, they will know what to do (God knows they aren't fluent in English), and get me a replacement.  (still under warrenty)

Hi ,  I am just begining to have the same problem, But mines, I have just noticed that it flashes orange twice in a roll and then green once. It has the same pattern wether the laptop (5100) is on or off. I Was reading my manual and it indicates that if the indicater flashes consecutive times in orange then in green, that it most possibly be the battery defective,  I think that is the problem, cause in the weeks the battery would only last after a full charge , half an hour no matter what i would be running., I am getting frustrating cause of the fast power draining. But even with battery having the blinking pattern the battery would still charge but like I said it would luckilly last 40 to 25 minutes.

Are you having the same problem?  I am starting to surf theweb for a good deal in dell battery, but the run run like for $99. Have you found a good deal  for battery?  Doe's any body think if we can find a longer laasting battery?

This problem is listed under earlier Bios #'s.  Mine is A04, I have had this problem.  I am contemplating flashing the Bios.

Well, so your thinking of flashing the Bios?  Friday night I left my laptop on downloading some files, but without the battery on, just pluged to the wall. In the morning after I woke up, I put back the battery in, adn since then I have not seen the flashing sequence, as described before, and the seems to be charging just like before. I have no idea if that fixed the problem but it did stop flashing. Can you try this and let me know,if it works for you,or can anybody else try. I find it kind of wierd. cause I was having the problem for like week, before it stopped.

The flashing orange light has not been a permenant problem for me.  Only happened 2 x's in 14 months.  Bios #26 mentions, "Battery Not Always Charging" problem.  Frankly restarting the laptop, cured it both times.  But not "The Cure".

Has anyone found a solution to this problem? It is now occurring on my computer as well. 4 organge light then grenn regardless of whether or not the computer is plugged in. The battery life seems reasonable. Tried the bios update that I found at dell but it has done nothing. Any work here?
