Laptop keyboard and touchpad not working on windows boot

The keyboard with the Dell Inspiron N5110 and the touch pad do not work after the windows logo appears on screen. On opening the device manager, it shows an exclamation mark on the standard PS/2 standard keyboard and says that windows could not load the file for that device (error code 039). However, an external mouse works fine when connected through USB port. I did a system restore and then it began to work fine. However, when I shut down the system and opened it after 2 hours, the keyboard was not working again. So, I did a system restore again. This is very painful as I am currently working on a very important project and doing system restore is just taking away the time and it is definitely not the solution. Thanks for any help in advance.

Hi thanxforyourhelp,

It seems missing drivers on the system. , I’d suggest that you update BIOS and chipset driver on your computer to check for issue resolution. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, then download the BIOS from BIOS section and chipset from chipset section onto the system and install it.

That might be the problem. So, I am doing it meanwhile.

However, the keyboard and touchpad work fine just before starting windows icon appears on the screen, i.e., I am able to run diagnostics (by pressing the F12 key) and am able to enter the setup by pressing the F2 key, but after the windows logo appears on screen, the keyboard and touchpad stop working.

Hi thanxforyourhelp,

There seems to be a conflict of drivers inside the operating system. I would suggest you to install all the drivers again. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select ‘Drivers & Downloads’tab, select the OS, then download the drivers listed under appropriate section onto the system and install it.

I tried looking for the driver for the keyboard and mouse drivers in the link that you mentioned, but I found only one driver listed under that section (Dell touchpad driver) R305170

I downloaded the file, but it did not help at all.

Am I installing the correct driver?

Hi thanxforyourhelp,

I would suggest you to install the BIOS, chipset and all the drivers again listed under your service tag again by checking the other link for the correct order to install the drivers.
