Laptop sadness

My Dell insperion 1526 laptop has decided to quit working, totally...

The power comes on, but nothing boots, no windows, no anything, I'm pretty sure the hard drive is not even mounting?

As I'm sure holds true for many here,  the data on the drive is my existance...

Anyone have a clue how to solve this?

If you can't get to a BIOS screen (F2) it's highly unlikely the hard drive.  You'll likely need to call for warranty repair.

To recover data, remove the hard drive, mount it in a 2.5" SATA case, and attach it to a working system by USB.  Copy your data to the working system's hard drive.

Consider buying a second drive to mount in the case once your system is repaired - keeping the only copy of your data on the system is an invitation to disaster.  You MUST keep backups.

First; Thanks for the reply, and the advice, any and all is most welcome.

Now, as I sat staring at my dead computer, pushing buttons to no avail, I hit the Dell Media Direct button next to my power button. Low and behold, it booted?!? It thought for a few minutes, and then even windows (Vista...) booted!?!?

What happened? from totally 100% unresponsive, to now working again? How/why did that button work, and seem to fix what I thought was a catastrophic failure?
