Latitude C840 power issue
I have an old Latitude C840 which a friend gave me. The battery tests as dead (no LEDs light up on the battery). With the battery installed and the laptop's AC adapter plugged in, it first flashes green 4 times then orange, then flashes orange 4 times and one time green, with the last sequence repeating. Without the battery, no lights at all. Should it at least power up with the AC adapter, even if the battery is not in the unit?
I left the AC adapter plugged in for about an hour with no change. The adapter has a light on it, it's on while plugged in. It's 20 v @ 4.5 A (90W)
Thanx in advance.

It's almost certainly the system board - not the power button board.

The flashing lights mean the battery is bad.
You should be able to start up the notebook with the AC plugged in and without the battery.

no lights at all without the battery, also tried reseating the memory, CD, HDD
can't power up with or without battery, no power light when power button pressed

There is a DC power board in this model that may just need reseating (remove and reinstall) or replacing - it's relatively inexpensive so it may be worth the cost.

just replaced the DC power board, still no go
could it be something other than the motherboard?

it's does the same thing with the flashing orange and green lights, could the replacement board be bad as well?

could it be the power button board, or do I need a new m-board?
