Latitude Cpi D300XT Recovery Disk
Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to get my hands on a recovery disk for my Latitude Cpi D300XT. I want to set it back to factory pre-sets. It was given to me and I know it is fairly old, it did not have the disks with it and it seems to have some sort of error on it. I am trying to install Office XP on it and it won't allow me too. I just want to start over fresh, but I suppose I need the recovery disk for that. Also, Im going to get a cd rom, writer/dvd rom from an internet auction. Will I need drivers for that as well? Any help would be much appreciated as I am anxious to get this thing up and running. Thank you in Advance. Sarah V.

Thank you for using Dell's Community Forum.
There is not a recovery disk that we can give you, but you can download all of the needed drivers from our website. You can use your operating system CD to cleanly reinstall the OS first though.

The 1st step is to get a W98SE set with CD, Product Key and boot disk. Do you have a COA/Product Key sticker on the laptop bottom? The Dell recovery CDs for W98SE are sometimes available on Ebay, but they are worthless if the machine came without the sticker, as the CDs do not have one, and you must have that Product Key to install them. If the sticker was removed in the past, you will need to at least acquire an OEM Set of W98SE from Ebay(Cheapest)
The downloads from Dell you will absolutely need are the W98 Video drivers, Suspend, Bay Manager, and Synaptics Touchpad. Depending on whether the Modem PCMCIA Cards are the original ones, you may also be able to get the drivers from Dell also. If not, it means a driver hunt at the Modem MFR website or elsewhere for those.
