Latitude D600 Drivers Missing
Hello. I recently bought a secondihand Dell Latitude D600 laptop. I formatted the hard drive and installed Windows XP Professional. However, I noticed that the entire group "Other devices" comprising Ethernet controller, Multimedia Audio Controller, Network Controller, 02Micro Smart CardBus_Reader, PCI Model, and the Video Controller all displayed yellow question marks with exclamation points. When I click each of these, I get a code 28, "the drivers for this device are not installed", but a scan does not locate the drivers. Am I missing a hardware component with all these functions or is it indeed a driver problem and, in either case, can anyone suggest a fix? I have a WINXP disk but not a Dell Driver disk.
Where can I download these drivers? I visited the Dell Download webpage, but when I clicked on Network Drivers, about 20 came up?
Also, how do I know if this computer has a wireless modem?
I'm very new to all this so any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!!!!!!!

Hi,
You can download all the drivers, but if you can get a resource disk they will be on it. When there is more than 1 driver, you will have a tick beside the right one. There will be a lot of net drivers, but mainly for wireless. The built in net will be either gigabit or 10/100. If you open the side door underneath you can see if it has wireless fitted. The modem is inside the computer. There are also lables on the base for wireless and blue-tooth ( if fitted ) Have you tried to ring Dell to get the specs. ? They may be able to help. When you have found all the right drivers, burn a CD for next time.

Hi,
The tick I mention is when you have the Resource disk. You may be able to find one on Ebay, or re-post for someone in your area to borrow one. ( maybe copy ? ) I dont know if Dell would have an issue with that, it should have come with one. A moderator may know. The other thing that may work, is to put all the drivers in a folder " drivers " in a folder " Dell " . ( in drive C, the HDD ) Install the " chipset " drivers first, then from device manager get it to look for drivers, it may load some by itself. The problem is some drivers have a few versions, for different countries and it may load some wrong ones. With the resource disk there are notes to work out the right drivers when more than 1 is ticked. You could try some trial and error, but if you load wrong ones you may have to start again. Most drivers should be the same, the ones I think you will have to find are, Net modem and wireless net. The wireless is under the door on the edge, you may be able to find a brand. I think it may also have a Conextant modem. I know this isnt a lot of help, but the CD will make it easy. If you get the part number of the motherboard, under memory door, you may be able to post it and find out which driver from someone who has the same.

Between searching Dell's site and doing google searches, you should be able to turn up most or all of them.
