Latitude D810 upgrade question
I’m looking for some help with selecting the proper hardware for a graphics card upgrade (if it’s possible?).
My current hardware setup:
Latitude D810
Pentium M770 (2.13GHz)
ATI X600 (128MB)
2GB DDR2 533 SDRAM
Win XP Pro SP2
I’ve read an article about successfully retrofitting the NVIDIA® GeForceTM Go 7800GTX (256MB) into a D810. It seems like a fun project, but the heat dissipation issue seems like it could prevent taking advantage of the cards true performance potential.
Can you fill me in as to what is possible with my current laptop?
Are the newer cards using the same form factor?
256MB ATI® MobilityTM RADEONTM X1800 ?
256MB NVIDIA® GeForceTM Go 7400 with TurboCache4.?
256MB ATI MOBILITYTM RADEON® X1400 ?
512MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7900 GTX ?

After one year I’m still very happy with my Dell Laptop, however inquires into upgrades, and ordering (Memory, Batteries, etc) have been most difficult mainly due to a communication gap with the customer service rep. I have tried contacting Dell via email; only to receive a canned response that sends me back to the same people I’m not able to communicate with? Sorry if I sound like a redneck, I do personally regret not taking more foreign language classes, but didn’t know it was a prerequisite to purchasing a Dell computer? Customer Service is huge for any industry, surely I'm not the only one to have this experiance.

You may or may not be able to use one of the cards from the D820 - the form factor is likely similar, but the BIOS on the D810 may not handle the D820 cards.

I'd be interested to know if anyone has had sucess using one of the newer cards from a D820.
