Latitude E6400 driver refusal to install.
on a Latitude E6400
BIOS indicates:
Audio: IDT 92HD71
Wireless: intel wireless
Windows XP SP3 installed w/ all current patches.
all other drivers installed and working.
drivers from Dell's site: .../support/drivers/us/en/19 {also, inputting the service tag does not change list, still displays same drivers}
IDT 92HDxxx HD Audio for Windows XP
Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100
neither install, state error: "wrong hardware, exiting"
anyone have any ideas why these will not install?
anyone know how to get these installed?
I thank you in advance for the assitance.

Hi,
Welcome to the Community. Did you just reinstall Windows on your computer? If you have, then you need to install the drivers in the correct order, or some devices may not install properly. You will need to start by installing Dell System software, under System Utilities on the support site, and then work your way down. Use the below link for help.

Hope this helps
Thank you

Thank you kindly for the input.
In reading through the PDF that refers to Latitudes, is suggests audio should be installed prior to video drivers (which, imho, is the dumbest thing I ever read)
However, in reading the rest of the document it caveats the install sequence with:
2.6.6 Audio:
- Microsoft Operating Systems do not include
the Audio driver recommended by Dell. The
IDT 92HDxxx HD Audio driver is available on
Dell’s driver & downloads support web site
(support dell com) under the “Audio” section
Note: Under XP 32-Bit only with service
packs earlier than Service pack-3 and for
Latitude E-Family & mobile Precision 1st
generation only, the Audio driver must be
installed prior to installing the graphics
driver. This applies to Intel graphics
solution only
The current install is service pack THREE (3), again, with all current security patches as detailed by Belarc.
so, this being established, what is the cause of a dell driver being unable to read a current hardware?
audio and wireless are still inoperative,.....

Ths odd resolution I was lead to is the installation of the E6410 audio drivers, to which these installed correctly.

CeyarreckZ you are my saver. I ran into the exact problem. I kept installing .. reinstalling WinXP SP3 on E6400 as described in the Dell Re-Image "How-To" Guide for E6400 and IDT_92HDXXX-HD-AUDIO_A04_R302809.exe and any IDT audio drivers that I could find on the web but was still no sound until I ran into your post.
This is to confirm that the IDT-Driver, R273994.exe, under Audio section of the E6410 (www.dell.com/.../555) is the CORRECT driver for E6400 Audio Controller IDT92HD71.
VERIFYING INSTALLATION OF THE SOFTWARE
Device Manager -> Sound, video and game controllers
IDT High Definition Audio CODEC should be listed
Thanks again CeyarreckZ

Thank you SO much! This one had been SO frustrating to me. First shot with the RIGHT audio driver worked, even though the driver is labeled e6410.

CeyarreckZ - How on EARTH did you find this out?? I have been pulling my hair out for weeks over this driver issue.
The post by cukev56 with the link to the driver works perfectly.
Thanks to both of you.
