Latitude E6440 mSATA support

Has anybody physically tried mSATA SSD in 3rd mini card slot (mini PCI-E slot above WWAN) on Latitude E6440? I'd not find any straightforward answer and even the Premiere Support has not confirm neither contradict using mSATA SSD in this notebook. Thanks for factual answers in advance...

I have tried and it works perfectly. I currently have an msata SSD as my main boot drive, and then have a smaller 2.5 SSD from a few years back for extra storage.

I thought the same initially. After you remove the back panel, then you also will have to remove that corner by removing the 2 screws. Once the corner is off you should be able to fit the msata drive without any problems.

Hi Sleeve22,

How can you make the mSSD work? I installed but the windows do not recognize. I used Windows 7 Ent. Thank you.

If you look at the owner's manual, no mention is made of mSATA - nor is there any in Crucial's compatibility list for this model.  That's relatively convincing data that say there's no mSATA support.

Relatively as you say, that's why I was asking for real practice. Speculating does not help and I wish I can try myself, but can't take hold of mSata SSD from my neighbourhood :( Still trying and resisting to buy new one and then return it.

Sleeve22, hope you'll have no problem, becasue I've managed to successfuly install full heigth mSATA drive (e.g. Samsung 840 EVO) to 3rd mini card slot (WWAN), which is visible only after removing base corner caps not just the base cover. After two weeks of testinting I can unquestionably confirm there is no problem to use mSATA drive on Latitude E6440. What a great notebook :)

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't have a chance yet to try it out yet, but I am happy to hear I can likely use my additional msata drive.

Sleeve22, have you tried to install your mSATA SSD on your Latitude E6440?

I have the same Notebook, and I thinking to buy a mSata, but I don´t know if it works well on a E6440.

Sleeve22, thanks for the reply :-)

Which mSata drive are you using?

I´m thinking to buy a Samsung 840 EVO 250 GB.

Hi, Sleeve22

You said you installed successful mSata into the WWAN port  of E6440 but it seems to small compare with the mSata. How do you fit it? Thank you.
