I'm running Windows XP Home. Uninstalling the USB controllers didn't work. One quirk I've discovered though:
Boot the computer up and log in. Plug in the webcam and get the BSOD. Restart the computer leaving it plugged in, computer boots up fine and the webcam works perfectly!
Wierd, eh? Hardly ideal but at least I can use it until a solution is found.
Windows update is set to automatic so should be up to date. A friend has the Logitech Fusion webcam so I'm going to try installing that just to see what happens...
Over 2 days and still no reply from Dell Support either - they must be scratching their heads too! I should ask for a refund when they decide to get back to me.

you could try uninstalling everything under usb in device manager then reboot to see if it makes any difference.

I should add that I am using the Logitech Notebook Pro WebCam on my laptop which uses the same drivers as the 5000 and have experienced no problems.
