MATSHITA DVDRWBD UJ-110 M1730 XPS
I purchased an M1730 a few months ago with a MATSHITA DVDRWBD UJ-100. MediaDirect never worked properly for Blu Ray playback even after the updates so I paid for Arcsoft's TotalMedia Theatre, which worked great for a while then my optical drive stopped recognizing Blu Ray disc. I reinstalled Windows Vista and MediaDirect, but still no luck. I've also tried PowerDVD 8.0 which didn't change anything. I was wondering does anybody know if I need some driver or firmware reinstalled for the drive since I reinstalled Windows Vista? I've tried everything I can think of if anybody has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

Welcome to the forums :smileyhappy:
It's possible the drive has developed a fault?
Try running the diagnostics tests, to see if they report any problems?
If not... I'd suggest a call to tech support. Be sure to tell them everything you've tried yourself ;)

No I haven't been able to find any firmware for the drive. After talking to Dell tech support about 4 or 5 times and dealing with that direct connect a couple times they finally sent me a new drive. It worked for a while but recently it's doing the same thing the other one did. The drives they are using may be faulty. I'm going to contact them again today and see what I need to do. They shouldn't have you contacting Panasonic yourself, your laptop is still under warranty I'm sure. They need to come up with a solution or send a replacement.

One would think that Dell would have installed blu ray drives that play back ALL blu ray discs instead of some discs. I am at lost as to what I should do next. I just received Rambo Blu Ray discs and all but the latest Rambo blu ray play back on my laptop and, again, the disc that does not play back on my laptop works on my son's PS3.
I was told that I could not exchange my laptop since it is more thatn 21 days since I purchased it.I may contact Panasonic and inquiry about firmware update and see what happens next. If update does not work or not available, Dell is going to hear it from me.
Thanks for your input.

Has anyone ever discovered an update for drivers or firmware regarding issues with playing the latest blu-ray movies. I can play older blu-rays but when I try to play a recent one I get an error message that reads I need to update my blu-ray player. Now I know why I got out of computers when I did, TOO MUCH INFO...

Are you also using a XPS M1730/Vista?
Have any of you tried playing Blu-Ray discs with anything other than Media Direct - i.e. PowerDVD Ultra, WinDVD Plus Blu-Ray, or AnyDVD HD?
I know you shouldn't have to of course - since it defeats the purpose of having a Media Direct button
But trying different software - even if it requires booting to the desktop first, will at least help identify whether the problem is specific to Media Direct, or is a different problem altogether?

i am having the same problem with the dell xps 1730. when i try to burn cd or dvd with the internal drive, i can burn like every 1 out of 5 if lucky. it is annoying to and seeing how I do more movie work with them. sometimes programs will quit and have to reconvert which is about a 45 minute process. very time consuming. now when i pllug in my external dvd burner that i bought like 6 years ago, i can burn dvds like all day with it and it doesn't have no problems. but i travel to school for the weekdays so don't really bring a external with me. But really need a firmware update for the drive. Can anyone find a update or does it not exist?
