Media control buttons to control iTunes?

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 9300.
Now, I'm wondering the following:
Is it possible to use the media control buttons for controlling itunes? I haven't found any settings for this buttons so far. If it's possible, how can this be done?

Greetings,
Ben

Some more info:
In the faq, you're talking about Access direct buttons, but it seems my Inspiron 9300 had MEDIA direct buttons. I installed the drivers (I suppose), but can't find any screen to set the preferences of the buttons.

My 6000 front buttons control iTunes just fine without changing any settings.

Do they also work when iTunes is not selected? They, indeed, work fine in iTunes, but when it's running in the background, they don't function any more.
For example, iTunes is playing and you're surfing or working in any other program, you can't use the buttons to skip a song :-(

Oh yes mine too, sorry for the confusion.  Mine only work when you select iTunes.

It would be nice if you could use those buttons without selecting iTunes or whatsoever. Is there any way to do this?

I found a way to use them in WinAMP: in the preferences menu (ctrl+p) just enable the global hotkeys and they work fine :-)
I haven't checked yet if iTunes has a similar option.

When I install the Access Direct software on my 8200, it adds another tab to keyboard properties in the control panel.  I used the Microsoft powertoy TweakUI to change the buttons to whatever I wanted them to be, you could try that.

If you change them that way will they still work with other programs or only iTunes?

is there even an Access Direct software for the 9300? I know there's Quickset that came with the drivers, but I don't see anywhere to the external media buttons. Did anyone get itunes to work with the 9300 yet without having to keep it open?

Did anyone get this working so that the buttons are useful while itunes is running in the background?  Thanks!

You can install the iTunes Multi-Plugin 2.2 for Windows. It worked for me with my Inspiron 6000, iTunes version 6.0.1.3, and the front media keys - even when iTunes does not have focus.

FYI: This exact question was already answered in another thread:
http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=insp_input&message.id=29439

which has a link to:
http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=114029

which has good instructions for setting up the plugin to work with the Dell media keys.

I downloaded the iTunes plugin from this Aquasoft forum post. Apparently, you just have to click and download the install file from the first post in that thread.

When I installed, the installer complained that my iTunes version may not be compatible. I made sure to create a Windows Restore Point, and then installed the plugin without any worries. It was successful!
