I also have the same problem. I tried to use the "repair" download CD which reported "Done!" but the same chalkboard DVD graphic came up. I then contacted DELL support and was sent a MediaDirect reinstallation CD. That failed to initiate with an error about "unable to copy files". I downloaded the same software but then received an error that "will not run on this machine". The MediaCenter software and other DVD players work fine if the Inspiron E1505 is booted normally. Only the MediaDirect button is not working. My computer is also about a week old. What do I need to do to get back a function that was important in my decision to by this computer?
Okay... This should work unless you get the black loading bar every time you start MediaDirect. Start MediaDirect and wait until you get to the home screen. Once there, hold down the power button, not the MediaDirect button, but the power button until the computer turns off. Press the MediaDirect button and it should show the black loading bar, and work normally again.
can anyone help me to find MediaDirect Re installation CD for my Inspiron E1505 machine. I am based in Saudi Arabia. Please please help me. I reformatted my hard disk and now MediaDirect not functioning as it was.
I also faced the same problem, Once I pressed the dell mediadirect button , it displayed the dell welcome page and after that Screen got black and can't work after press any button(including dell mediadirect ) .
Once I pressed the power button it exit from Media direct.
Contacting Dell and getting a reinstallation disc may be what you have to do, but it's painful. From all indications, the reinstall disc won't actually do anything unless you let it recreate the partition table...meaning it wipes out all your data. Means you have to rebuild the system. ugh. had to do this yesterday myself using pc-restore (which was a plus...at least it didn't take too long.) this is accomplished this way: Put your MediaDirect setup disc in, boot off it, and then run the re-partitioning as prompted. Then either to a PC restore (by holding CTRL-F10 at bootup) or reinstall Windows/drivers/apps and once you have Windows rebuilt, run your MediaDirect setup disc under windows to install MD. One useful tidbit - you don't have to repartition using the MD setup disc, you can do it using a 3rd party partitioning program like Partition Magic. Just so long as the partition is there when you do the PC Restore. Still a pain that there's no way to reinstall without rebuiling your computer in some way.
