Microphone Levels and Stereo Mix options on Vista

Hi,

How do i change the microphone recording levels?

I've adjusted the level as far as it goes on the audio settings, but i almost have to scream for it to work, as it's still faint.

In addition what happened to the Stereo Mix option? I no longer seem to have it :(

I'm using a Insprion 1720 with Vista Business

If you mean the internal mic, I have seen several posts complaining of low levels. I don't know if there is a fix for this or not. You might have to contact Dell about it because it might be a defect in the model. Here is a path to the mic that was posted by our former moderator, Rollie:

"Open the Dell Webcam Center, and look for Audio Source in the bottom right corner. Click on Microphone/Line In and then go to More, and select Microphone Array (SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC). Once the Audio Source says Microphone Array (SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC) then the microphone should be active."

Perhaps there is a level control somewhere along that path.

As far as stereo mix, do you mean you had it when you first got the computer? That is surprising because the other Inspiron models with the Sigmatel 92xxHD chip don't have it. There is a way to enable it using another manufacturer's driver, but I doubt if it will work on the 1720. A workaround is to connect the output and input jacks with a cable.
