Missing On Screen Display (OSD) for volume and brightness adjustments with Fn keys
I have a Dell Precision 5510 laptop issued by my work. They have installed some custom software and and I seem to have lost the OSD showing the little bars indicating adjustments to Volume and Brightness when you use the Fn keys to adjust them. A search of previous threads indicated this function was previously managed by a program called Dell Quickset or Dell ControlPoint System Manager, but these were from posts several years old and neither of those programs seems to be applicable to my current laptop. Any idea what program or drivers need to be installed to restore this functionality?
Edit: I'm on Windows 7

Same exact issue here. Also, I'd like to add that the dell customizations to the windows mobility center are also missing for me. I'm on Windows 7 btw...

Thanks for the reply, Chris. That link does not list the Precision M5510 as a compatible system. Is it?

First, find out from your work Administrator/IT if they disabled those applications on purpose. Second, if you do not have Administrator rights, you cannot install the required application (Dell Feature Enhancement Pack Application) so you need to ask them.

And on the bottom, in the list of compatible systems, the Precision models listed are:
Precision M2400
Precision M4400
Precision M4500
Precision M4600
Precision M4700
Precision M6400
Precision M6500
Precision M6600
Precision M6700
The M5510 is missing from that list. So my question stands: is the M5510 actually a compatible system for this application?

Well, at the top it states, "This package provides the Dell Feature Enhancement Pack Application and is supported on OptiPlex, Precision, Tablet and Latitude models that are running the following Windows Operating Systems: Windows 7 (64-bit) and Windows 8 (64-bit).".

I saw that. I would simply try to install it and see what happens. The worst that could happen is it will tell you it cannot install.

I'm worried that the worst that would happen is that it would screw with drivers or devices. Can we get confirmation from an engineer?
EDIT: well, i took a risk and installed. Most things seem to work. However, it doesn't seem to have integrated into windows mobility center. Also, there is no tool provided to control bluetooth power, as there was in previous versions via windows mobility center. Any idea about this? Thanks...

I installed the Dell Feature Enhancement Pack, and it does seem to work as far as showing the onscreen icons when changing the volume and brightness. The volume works exactly as expected, showing a little slider as you go up and down so you can see how high/low you are relative to the min and max. The brightness icon on the other hand, does not seem to work exactly as expected. It does show a "+" or "-" sign indicating that you are increasing or decreasing the brightness, but the little bar at the bottom does not indicate where you are on the spectrum from minimum to maximum. Seems like a bug, but I guess I have to live with it for now.
